Texas Wine Lover® was founded early in 2011 by Jeff Cope to help promote Texas wine. Jeff and Gloria Schlanser first started visiting any Texas wineries in January 2010 and felt their experiences could benefit both consumers and producers. The blog began by describing their experiences at each winery but quickly moved into providing news about the Texas wine industry too. Along the way, news about non-Texas wine, product reviews, and more was added.
Another goal at Texas Wine Lover® is to provide the latest up-to-date listings of wineries including a winery map with their locations to help consumers plan their visits. To make Texas wine, you need both the combination of great grapes and great wineries, so also an attempt at a complete list of Texas Vineyards was added to the website. Surprisingly, nobody can answer how many acres of Texas grapes are being grown, so Texas Wine Lover® has taken that mission on to answer that question.
During the early blog’s time, Jeff was the recipient of the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association’s 2014 Wine Press Award. After almost four years of being a success, it was determined in order to take Texas Wine Lover® to the next level, the task was too much for Jeff and Gloria, so it was time to make a decision. The decision was easy as wine industry friend Jeremy Wilson became involved who Jeff had come to know well as they both passed the Level 1 Sommelier exam from the Court of Master Sommeliers together. Added to the website (not a blog anymore!) is a podcast, a listing of upcoming Texas wine festivals, a shop selling popular wine accessories and Texas Wine Lover® merchandise, and more. Over 10 writers from around the state of Texas contribute blog posts to the website providing the most extensive Texas wine coverage of any website.
